The purpose of this report is to provide a range of energy supply and demand projections for the information of the public. Chapter 1 highlights the main trends and issues that arise from the National Energy Board's long-term energy outlook for Canada. Chapter 2 discusses the major assumptions made for the projections, including world oil prices, main economic indicators, and Canadian demographic and structural trends. It also describes the two main cases that form the basis of the outlook and presents the sensitivity analysis. Chapter 3 highlights projected results for three energy demand scenarios, including total primary and secondary energy demand as well as secondary energy demand by sector and by region of Canada. Subsequent chapters focus on projections regarding electricity, natural gas, natural gas liquids, crude oil and equivalent, and coal. Chapter 9 presents future trends in energy supply, demand, and trade, to illustrate the balance between domestic energy production and imports with domestic demand and imports. The final chapter uses the supply and demand projections contained in the report to estimate emissions of greenhouse gases under the various scenarios.
