Fiber-reinforced plastics (FRP) will play a major part in many of the energy generation and storage systems that will be built in the 1980s. These will include thousands of large wind machines with FRP blades and countless heating systems with FRP frames and other components. The inherent properties of high strength, light weight, low thermal conductivity, good electrical insulation, corrosion resistance, and low cost give design flexibility and allow a variety of processing techniques.
