Pilot flood performace of an eastern Kansas waterflood to date and the anticipated recovery of 350 bb/acre-ft for conventional waterfloods of Squirrel sandstone reservoirs. Assuming conventional flood recovery of 150 bb/acre-ft to be representative, the Vernon pilot flood is anticapted to recover an additional 200 bbl/acre-ft as a result of polymer flooding. This amounts to recovery of 49,000 additional barrels with an expenditure of $36,000 for sufficient polymer to inject a 1/3 pore volume slug with a 500 ppm concentration. Effective reduction of the brine-to-oil mobility ratio and the absence of a connate water bank separating the polymer solution from the oil bank is evidenced both by production of polymer solution at water breakthrough and by the apparent efficient displacement of reservoir oil. The cumulative recovery obtained during the sustained period of peak oil production and the attendant small water cut indicate the generation of a substantial oil bank. Thus, an injected solution- displaced oil interface may exist such that chemicals added to injected water are effective in displacing oil.
