Mean-plaquette analysis of the SU(3) lattice gauge theory

Any pure gauge lattice theory can be written in terms of plaquette variables with the constraint of the Bianchi identity for each cube. This allows the development of a mean-plaquette approximation. A recently proposed modification of this method is studied. We apply it to a mixed SU(3) gauge model in four dimensions with excellent results compared with Monte Carlo simulations.
