DC-SQUID preamplifier for DC-SQUID magnetometer

Conference · · IEEE Trans. Magn.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6087702

DC-SQUID magnetometer with DC-SQUID preamplifier had been designed and experimentally tested. The total magnetometer noise had been reduced to the intrinsic noise level of the input DC-SQUID and magnetometer cryogenic containment had been minimized by using the DC-SQUID preamplifier. The authors used two identical thin-film DC-SQUIDs with 15 ..mu..m/sup 2/ area resistively shunted Nb-AlO/sub x/-Nb junctions. Two types of DC-SQUIDs interconnections were investigated: through resistor connected in series to coupling coil of the DC-SQUID amplifier. The value of the resistor was chosen near that of the dynamic resistance of the input DC-SQUID. The first type of preamplifier circuit had flux amplification near 20 dB in a wide frequency range. The designed DC-SQUID magnetometer with DC-SQUID preamplifier had a coupled energy sensitivity approx. =3x10/sup 31/ J/Hz in the range from 1 Hz to 30 kHz and about 100 dB dynamic range.
