Title: Development and applications of photosensitive device systems to studies of biological and organic materials: Progress report for the period January 1, 1987-December 31, 1987

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6085070

Overall goals for grant FG02-87ER60522 are to investigate the application of low light-level electro-optical imaging technologies for biological and materials applications. Specific accomplishments since the last progress report (5/27/87) include: Demonstration of time-resolved millisecond x-ray diffraction capability utilizing an image-intensified TV x-ray detector at a synchrotron source; Construction, software refinement and evaluation of a CCD-based x-ray detector; Evaluation of microfabricated high-resolution phosphors; New x-ray beam line development; Investigation of applications of image intensification to crystalloluminescence and bioluminescence; and Utilizing the low-light level technology, materials research was carried out on biomembranes and liquid crystals. These results are described.
