Theoretical study of the lowest /sup 1/. sigma. /sub g//sup +/ doubly excited state of H/sub 2/

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. A; (United States)
The energy and width of the 1sigma/sub u//sup 2/ /sup 1/..sigma../sub g//sup +/ state of H/sub 2/ are calculated using Feshbach projection operators and the Stieltjes moment method. The results are compared with an analysis of the double minima in the potential-energy curves of the /sup 1/..sigma../sub g//sup +/ Rydberg states. The doubly excited 1sigma/sub u//sup 2/ configuration is unstable with respect to autoionization for R<2.65a/sub 0/, and the autoionization rate is sensitive to both the value of the internuclear separation and the energy of the emitted electron.
