The scope of work of the present reseach project is to evaluate the effectiveness of the powdered activated carbon-contact stabilization activated sludge process in the treatment of a coke oven wastewater. Nitrification and subsequent denitrification of the contact-stabilization clarifier effluent will also be evaluated. Emphasis during this research will be placed on determining the effect of sludge retention time and the PAC addition rate on the performance of the contact-stabilization process and the subsequent unit processes. Optimization of the contact and stabilization contact times will also be attempted.
