Burner assembly for radiant tube heating system

Patent ·
OSTI ID:6082053

This patent describes a radiant tube heating system comprising an outer radiant tube made of heat-resistant material, a burner assembly comprising an inner tube located within and spaced inwardly from the radiant tube. The inner tube has a forward discharge end, means for delivering combustion air into the inner tube for flow toward the forward end of the inner tube. A gas supply pipe is located within the inner tube and has a forward end. Means for delivering gaseous fuel to the gas supply pipe for flow toward the forward end of the gas supply pipe, a tubular nozzle on the forward end portion of the gas supply pipe and adapted to receive fuel from the supply pipe. The nozzle is at least partially disposed within the inner tube and coacts therewith to define an annular passage permitting combustion air to flow out of the forward end of the inner tube. Openings in the nozzle permits a portion of the combustion air in inner tube to flow into nozzle and mix with the fuel therein. Means adjacent to the nozzle for igniting the fuel-air mixture discharges from the nozzle and produces a flame. Means mounting the nozzle for selective back and forth adjustment relative to forward end of the tube enables the flame to be shortened and lengthened.
