The dynamic behavior of the electron ejected by two-photon ionization of p-phenylenediamine in several alcohols has been investigated by picosecond transient absorption measurements, and new spectroscopic evidence concerning the solvation dynamics of the electron in alcoholic solvents at room temperature is presented. Emphasis is placed on their finding of an intermediate state in the solvation process, which invalidates the description of solvation by a simple two-state model. A gradual deepening of the trap, manifest as a continuous blue shift of the absorption band maximum, is characterized by two time constants, {tau}{sub D2} and {tau}{sub L1}.
