The laser photoionization mass and photoelectron spectra of propargyl radical (l-C{sub 3}H{sub 3}) and two partially deuterated isotopomers are measured in a supersonic molecular beam. Radicals were produced by flash pyrolysis in a heated supersonic tube nozzle. The PES exhibits an intense origin band at 8.67 {plus minus} 0.02 eV, which is assigned to the adiabatic ionization potential previously seen by electron impact mass spectroscopy. A second photoelectron band at higher energy is assigned to the previously unobserved first excited state of the propargyl cation. One highly anharmonic vibrational progression in the cation is also observed.
