Lignite/coal injection in a blast furnace at Arbed Esch-Belval works

Injection of lignite/coal has improved both blast furnace operating conditions and hot metal quality at this Luxembourg plant. Replacement ratios of 0.54 kg coke/kg lignite and 0.81 kg coke/kg coal were obtained. A dramatic reduction occurred in hot metal sulphur content from 0.04%, during a reference period, to 0.028% with lignite and 0.021% with coal injection, under similar operating conditions.
