Economic analysis of coal-fired cement kilns

This paper argues that sulfur is not a problem as long as the mole ratio of sulfur to alkali oxides is less than, or equal to, 1. Where the mole ratio exceeds 1, many methods are available to eliminate or reduce the clogging problems such as using the preheater bypass or a precalciner with up to 100% kiln gas bypass. Also mentions that in an economic analysis of the conversion of kilns in the Indonesian and Philippine cement industries from oil firing to coal firing, interest charges must be taken into account.
