The effects of global climate changes and air pollution on the nation's forests will be the focus of a new 10-year research program to be conducted by the US Forest Service. Called the Global Climate Change Priority Research Program, the new effort will focus on forest health and productivity in a changing atmospheric environment. The work will be an extension and expansion of current Forest Service research devoted to acid precipitation and related pollutants. The objective of the program is to provide the scientific basis needed to address the effects of physical and chemical climate changes on forests, rangelands and related ecosystems.
