Laboratory studies of oil recovery by cyclic steam injection

Thesis/Dissertation ·
OSTI ID:6079428
The scope of this study on cyclic steam injection was to investigate, through laboratory research, the influence of the steam injected and the length of soaking time on production rates and oil recovery. The results of the investigations indicate that: (1) the oil rate and the oil recovery increase with cyclic steam injection; (2) the peak oil rate may be influenced by operating procedures, previous steam injection operations, amount and length of steam injection, and length of soaking period; (3) the water-oil ratio, high at the start of production, declines rapidly and then remains approximately costant; (4) the water-oil ratio increases with each successive cycle; (5) part of the total amount of water remaining in the vicinity of the wellbore increases with each successive cycle; (7) heat is stored in the reservoir; (8) the amount of heat stored in the reservoir at the end of the cycle is increased with each successive cycle; and (9) the heated zone continues to grow in size during the soaking period and during the production period.
