Gas chromatographic studies of sorption isotherms of butane, 1-butene and benzene on silicalite and ZSM-5 with different Si/Al-ratio in the Na- and the H-form have been made. For butane similar behvaior on all zeolites is observed. The isotherms of a 1-butene and benzene have steps that are correlated with the number of cations inside the channel system. The heats of sorption allows the interaction of the sorbate molecules with the walls to be separated from that with the cations and protons. Typical heats in the range of interaction with the Na-ions are for butane 53 kJ/mole, for 1-butene 64 kJ/mole and for benzene 95 kJ/mole. For the H-forms the value of butane does not change, is slightly reduced for benzene and strongly increased to 110 kJ/mole for 1-butene.
