Shore crossing techniques for offshore pipelines in Arctic regions

Conference · · Int Port and Ocean Eng under Arctic Cond Conf Norwe Proc; ()

The existence of large oil reserves in frontier areas such as the Arctic and subarctic regions is already proven, and plans for the development of these resources have stimulated new offshore recovery techniques. In particular, the zone where an offshore pipeline meets the shoreline presents unique design problems. The sea bed in this area is usually subject to ice scour from intruding ice masses and the occurrence of permafrost soils also necessitates special measures to insure the continued stability of the pipeline. This work discusses the state of the art and future developments for pipeline shore crossing techniques in Arctic regions. 11 references.
