Mexico: moving up in the world

Journal Article · · Pacific Oil World; ()

In less than 5 years, Mexico has more than doubled its level of oil production. Mexico expects to pass the 3 million bpd goal in 1981 and to reach 4 million bpd in 1982. Mexico is presently in fourth place among the world's oil producers, at approximately one-half the production of the US. The estimated reserves in Mexico have reached 60.1 billion bbl of crude oil and gas equivalent, of which 44 billion bbl are crude oil. Potential reserves have been estimated at 200 billion bbl. The best performer in the surge of Mexican production is the Gulf of Campeche from which 50,000 bpd are produced. The impact of waterflooding on increasing production also is explained.
