Liquefaction of natural gas

Patent ·
OSTI ID:6074755
West Germany's Linde AG has developed a new liquefaction process that - compared with similar closed-refrigeration cycles using two multicomponent mixtures - offers improved thermal efficiency, energy savings, and heat-exchanger temperature stability. The first multicomponent mixture, after partial liquefaction, is subjected to a phase-separation step to obtain a first multicomponent gaseous fraction and a first multicomponent liquid fraction. The first multicomponent liquid fraction is expanded and a portion is partially evaporated in indirect heat exchange with (1) the natural gas to be cooled, (2) the first multicomponent gaseous fraction, and (3) the second multicomponent mixture. The resultant liquefied first multicomponent gaseous fraction is expanded and partially evaporated in indirect heat exchange with the cooled natural gas and the second multicomponent mixture, the latter being at least partially liquefied during this heat exchange.
