The food chain as a source of human exposure from municipal waste combustion

Conference ·
OSTI ID:6072116
The food chain is the primary pathway of human exposure for a large class of lipophilic compounds, such as dioxins, DDT, and other pesticides. Since municipal waste combustors release both metals and organics into the environment, the food chain pathway must be considered as a potential source of human exposure. This paper presents estimates of human exposure through the food chain for a typical municipal waste combustor. A Monte Carlo uncertainty analysis is performed to characterize variability in exposure estimates. 8 refs., 4 figs., 3 tabs.
