Some variability statistics of available wind power. [USA]

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6070221
The long-term variability of available wind power has been studied in ten-year records of hourly wind speed observations at fifteen selected weather stations. Month by month and year by year sums of wind power occurrences were used to generate average, standard deviation, and autocorrelation statistics. The amplitude of the annual cycle in available wind power was at least 70% of the average at all locations. Long term integrated power production showed maxima and minima that differed by 36 to 91% from average annual production.
