Pneumatic pipe wiper system
A system is described for stripping fluid from the external surface of tubular articles being pulled from the wellhead of a well. The system is used in conjunction with a rig having a source for supplying fluid to the well. The system consists of: a carriage mountable over the wellhead; a pair of wiper pad assemblies slidingly mounted for inward and outward movement with respect to each other in the carriage; actuator means for moving the wiper pad assemblies inward and outward with respect to each other in the carriage, the actuator means including an actuator having a cylinder and piston rod movable between a retracted position with respect to the cylinder and an extending position with respect to the cylinder; pneumatic means for extending and retracting the piston rod; means for sensing the pressure of the fluid supplied to the well; and means for moving the wiper pads outward with respect to each other when the pressure of the fluid supplied to the well exceeds a preselected amount.
