Fuel system for a vehicle engine
A fuel supply system for a vehicle engine is described comprising fuel storage means, a fuel supply line communicating the fuel storage means to the engine, a fuel return line for returning unused fuel to the fuel storage means, a fuel reservoir housing communicated with the fuel supply and fuel return lines and dividing the fuel supply line into a first section communicated with the fuel storage means and a second section communicated with the engine. The housing is divided into an inlet chamber communicated with the first section of the fuel supply line and an outlet chamber communicated with the second section of the fuel supply line and with the fuel return line, first pump means for pumping fuel through the first section of the fuel supply line, and second pump means for pumping fuel through the second section of the fuel supply line at a flow rate less than the flow rate at which the first pump means pumps fuel through the first section of the fuel supply line. The quantity of fuel pumped into the reservoir housing through the first section of the fuel supply line is in excess of the quantity of fuel pumped from the reservoir housing through the second section of the fuel supply line being returned to the fuel storage means through the fuel return line. The fuel return line is divided into a first section between the engine and the reservoir housing and a second section between the reservoir housing and the fuel storage means.
