Characterization of cubic boron nitride compacts

c-BN compacts find extensive applications in machining and shaping of hard ferrous materials. These compacts are synthesized at high temperature and high pressure in the presence of suitable binders. A comparative study of c-BN compacts synthesized at the National Physical Laboratory, New Delhi and those obtained from three other sources have been made regarding cyrstalline phases, composition, particle-size distribution of c-BN and binders, and the hardness in these compacts.
