The complexity of the new detectors in the low energy nuclear physics experiments forces new demands to the data acquisition systems: several channels to read, a fast on-line data sorting, good graphics, etc. In order to answer the experimental needs, a project to replace the old PDP based systems started at LNL. MANDA-SYSTEM (Multiprocessor Applied to Nuclear Data Acquisition) is the resulting apparatus: a multiprocessor system based on VMEbus mainly intended to operate at the XTU Tandem and at the future XTU Tandem+Linac accelerator. As the system has to cover a very large range of experimental setup, it is expected to use different kinds of front-end electronics. In this note, the authors describe the running version of the system that has been coupled to a double LNL front-end. The data sorting in this case is accomplished via hardware using CAMAC histogramming memories. Software data analysis is available on the Vaxstation spying the data from the main VME crate. Some details of the in progress developments concerning the coupling with new front-ends and the VME on-line data analysis system will be given in the last paragraph.
