Measuring airborne asbestos following an abatement action

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6065369
One of the most critical points in an asbestos abatement project is knowing when the work has been completed, the contractor can be released, and the building can be reoccupied. This decision should be based on two factors: (1) satisfactory performance of the abatement work, and (2) thorough cleaning of the work site. As outlined herein, these factors should be evaluated by virtually inspecting the work site and by measuring the level of airborne asbestos there. The evaluation should be conducted by the asbestos program manager or the technical advisor assigned to monitor the abatement work. The report discusses various technical issues regarding the air test. Specifications are provided for air sampling and detailed guidelines are presented for using either TEM or PCM to analyze the samples. The information is designed for asbestos program managers and technical program advisors.
