This paper presents measurements made by the microwave limb sounder (MLS) on the upper atmosphere research satellite (UARS), during the 1992 southern winter of ClO and O[sub 3] concentrations. ClO is the major reactive form of chlorine in the atmosphere which contributes to ozone destruction. Ozone depletion in the Antarctic in the springtime is caused by chlorine chemistry within polar stratospheric clouds.
