Formation of a Yang-Mills crystal in the electroweak theory at high fermion densities

Within the framework of the standard theory of electroweak interactions, it is shown that a characteristic property of gauge (V-A) theories at high fermion densities and at zero temperature is the formation of a spatially inhomogeneous condensate of vector bosons (a Yang-Mills crystal). These condensates arise in models of the early universe with an intermediate cold stage. It is noted that this cold dense fermion matter is metastable since the tunneling processes resulting from the complex structure of the vacuum can lead to a decrease in the fermion number. 8 references.
