The syntheses of Cu(PO{sub 3}){sub 2}, Cu{sub 2}P{sub 2}O{sub 7}, Cu{sub 4}P{sub 2}O{sub 9}, Cu{sub 5}P{sub 2}O{sub 10}, Cu{sub 3}(PO{sub 4}){sub 2}, and Cu{sub 2}PO{sub 4} were accomplished by several new solid-state routes. Attempts to synthesize CuPO{sub 3} were unsuccessful, and it is suspected that this compound, which is reported in the literature, may not exist. The thermal stabilities of Cu(PO{sub 3}){sub 2}, Cu{sub 2}P{sub 2}O{sub 7} and Cu{sub 3}(PO{sub 4}){sub 2} were examined, and their decomposition was concluded to be strongly dependent on slow kinetics.
