Flapper type annulus pressure responsive tubing tester valve

This patent describes a method of pressure testing a pipe string in a well bore, comprising: providing a pipe string having a tubing tester valve at the lower end; running the pipe string into the well bore; filling the interior of the pipe string from below with well bore fluid through the tubing tester valve; testing the integrity of the pipe string by applying pressure to the interior of the pipe string above the tubing tester valve thereagainst; sealing across the annulus between the pipe string and the wall of the well bore below the tubing tester valve with a packer; trapping hydrostatic pressure on the interior of the tubing tester valve in response to the sealing; increasing the pressure in the well bore above the packer to open the tubing tester valve; opposing the pressure increase with the trapped hydrostatic pressure; and opening the tubing tester valve only when the force resulting from the increased pressure exceeds the force resulting from the trapped hydrostatic pressure, to flow in the pipe string from above to below the tubing tester valve.
