Selective oxidation of olefins over transition metal-exchanged zeolite Y. [Cyclohexen and 1,4-cyclohexadiene]
Bis(ethylenediamine)cobalt(II) formed dioxygen adducts in zeolite Y, which were catalytic intermediates in the oxidative dehydrogenation of 1,4-cyclohexadiene to benzene and water. The reaction rate at about 65/sup 0/C was first order with respect to the cobalt-dioxygen complex concentration and the cyclohexadiene partial pressure and zero order with respect to the oxygen partial pressure. The liquid-phase catalytic oxidation of cyclohexene with molecular oxygen over various molybdenum-exchanged Y-type zeolites, including MoHY and MoCoHY, had induction periods of 0-12 hr and yielded products, including cyclohexene oxide, 2-cyclohexen-1-ol, and 2-cyclohexen-1-one; the selectivity for the epoxide was 25% at 50% conversion; a synergistic effect was found between molybdenum and cobalt. Molybdenum-exchanged zeolites were comparable in activity and epoxide selectivity to homogeneous catalysts.
