State energy price and expenditure report, 1985

The State Energy Price and Expenditure Report (SEPER) presents energy price and expenditure estimates for the 50 States, the District of Columbia, and the United States. The estimates are provided by energy source and economic sector. Documentation follows the tables and describes how the price estimates are developed, including sources of data, methods of estimation, and conversion factors applied. The average price paid for energy in the United States in 1985 was $8.50 per million Btu, up slightly over the 1984 average of $8.43 per million Btu. While total energy consumption held steady at 74 quadrillion Btu from 1984 to 1985, expenditures rose from $439 billion to $441 billion. Of the major energy sources, electricity registered the highest price per million Btu ($19.85), Followed by petroleum ($7.56), natural gas ($4.60), coal ($1.69), and nuclear fuel ($0.70).
