Inclusive [chi][sub [ital c]] and [ital b]-quark production in [ital [bar p]p] collisions at [radical][ital s] =1. 8 TeV

We report the full reconstruction of [chi][sub [ital c]] mesons through the decay chain [chi][sub [ital c]][r arrow][ital J]/[psi] [gamma], [ital J]/[psi][r arrow][mu][sup +][mu][sup [minus]], using data obtained at the Collider Detector at Fermilab in 2.6[plus minus]0.2 pb[sup [minus]1] of [ital [bar p]p] collisions at [radical][ital s] =1.8 TeV. This exclusive [chi][sub [ital c]] sample is used to measure the [chi][sub [ital c]]-meson production cross section times branching fractions. We obtain [sigma][times][ital B]=3.2[plus minus]0.4(stat)[sub [minus]1.1][sup +1.2](syst) nb for [chi][sub [ital c]] mesons decaying to [ital J]/[psi] with [ital p][sub [ital T]][gt]6.0 GeV/[ital c] and pseudorapidity [vert bar][eta][vert bar][lt]0.5. From this and the inclusive [ital J]/[psi] cross section we calculate the inclusive [ital b]-quark cross section to be 12.0[plus minus]4.5 [mu]b for [ital p][sub [ital T]][sup [ital b]][gt]8.5 GeV/[ital c] and [vert bar][ital y][sup [ital b]][vert bar][lt]1.
