Bend conglomerate in Stonewall County, Texas

The Bend Conglomerate in Stonewall County is a coarse to medium grain, mostly clean, very friable quartzose sandstone. This type of sandstone represents stable conditions of sedimentation with relatively mild movements during accumulation. There is regional faulting present in Stonewall County in the area covered with a graben area extending northwest-southeast from the town of Old Glory. The Old Glory field is interpreted as being situated on the up-side of an up-to-the-southwest fault. This faulting occurred during Mississippian time with the Bend being deposited on an unconformable surface containing existing fault scarps. The faulting was slightly active during Bend time and ceased its activity during or at the end of Bend depositon. In exploring for new fields in the Bend Conglomerate, structural anomalies should be searched for through subsurface geological and seismic methods and local porosity should be analyzed.
