A method is described of shift control in an automatic transmission for a vehicle, wherein, during shifting, engine torque is changed by a predetermined value to thereby maintain the shift characteristics satisfactorily, which comprises: detecting emission of a 1st shifting command; detecting emission of a 2nd shifting command; and stopping engine torque control in association with the 1st shifting when the 2nd shifting command is emitted before the 1st shifting is completed.
