The authors measure the thermal expansion, electrical resistivity, and magnetic susceptibility of PbMo/sub 6/S/sub 8/ single crystals (with a T/sub c/ value of 14.2 K) along a twofold and a threefold axis. They find a large anisotropy in the three types of measurements. Results are discussed in terms of peculiarities of the phonon spectrum of Chevrel-phase compounds.
