A nomogram is described which can be used to determine the thermal performance of flat-plate solar collectors. The use of this nomogram results in two performance factors: the net absorptance a and the net heat loss coefficient b. These factors are used in the collector efficiency equation. The nomogram takes into account the angle of incidence, collector slope, absorber plate design, the insulating materials and thicknesses and the optical properties of the absorbing surface and glazing materials and the flow factors. A case example is given to illustrate the use of the nomogram.
