Spatial covariance function for rich clusters of galaxies

Journal Article · · Sov. Astron. Lett. (Engl. Transl.); (United States)
OSTI ID:6049046
In the distance range 5h/sup -1/< or =r< or =100h/sup -1/ Mpc (h = H/ (50 km sec/sup -1/ Mpc/sup -1/)) a fit to the spatial covariance function of Abell clusters of galaxies is provided by the power law xi(r) = ( (50h/sup -1/ Mpc)/r)/sup 1.6/. The covariance function is estimated from redshift measurements for rich clusters limited to the region r<480 Mpc, Vertical Bar b Vertical Bar> or =30/sup 0/. The significant disparity between the covariance functions for clusters and for individual galaxies is puzzling, but might represent evidence for a preferential scale clustering.
