Title: Measurement of the proton polarization in the reaction. gamma. p. -->. p. pi. /sup 0/ in a linearly polarized photon beam

We report measurements of the P/sub x/z component of the polarization vector of the recoil protons in the reaction ..gamma..p..-->..p..pi../sup 0/ in a linearly polarized photon beam with the polarization vector directed at an angle 45/sup 0/ to the reaction plane. The measurements were made at a ..pi../sup 0/-meson production angle in the c.m.s. theta(0 = 60/sup 0/ and a photon energy E/sub ..gamma../ = 0.8--1.5 GeV. The experimental data obtained on the energy distribution of the polarization indicate the presence of a minimum at E/sub ..gamma../ = 0.95 GeV and a maximum at E/sub ..gamma../ = 1.25 GeV. The data are compared with theoretical predictions.
