Environmental issues: a report on Pennsylvania

Journal Article · · EPA J.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6048532
Administration plans for regulatory reform will have negative effects if environmental regulations are sacrificed for economic reasons because a healthy environment and a healthy economy are interdependent. Concerns in Pennsylvania for the health-related aspects of water quality, the impacts of oil and gas development, solid-waste management, and mining all recognize the economic impacts of not protecting the environment. An assessment of the state's assets and problems illustrates how concerned citizens and groups have responded with an emphasis on restoring damaged resources and planning for future generations, with the cleanup of Pittsburg a prime example. This collection of seven articles also covers state environmental procedures, the selling of reclaimed wastes, and an industry view of the importance of cooperative action. (DCK)
