Transition to ion impact broadening of hydrogen lines in low density plasmas

Computer simulations of hydrogen Stark broadening are employed to investigate the transition to ion impact broadening at low plasma density. Velocities and impact parameters of ions are found to be distributed according to a joint probability density function. Stark broadening of Balmer line H{alpha} is a hydrogen plasma with 10{sup 4} K has been investigated. (AIP)
