The heat capacities (C/sup 0//sub p/) of corundum, periclase, anorthite, CaAl/sub 2/Si/sub 2/O/sub 8/ glass, muscovite, pyrophyllite, KAlSi/sub 3/O/sub 8/ glass, grossular, and NaAlSi/sub 3/O/sub 8/ glass have been determined to an accuracy of +-1.0% by differential scanning calorimetry between 350 and 1000 K. Results have been combined smoothly with existing low-temperature heat capacity and entropy data, and fitted by least squares to the equations presented. The accuracy of the differential scanning calorimeter was checked by measuring the heat capacities of corundum and periclase and comparing these results with those published by the U.S. National Bureau of Standards. Calorimetric data for muscovite, pyrophyllite, and grossular were combined with data from recent equilibrium studies to derive improved values for ..delta..H/sup 0//sub f,298/ and ..delta..G/sup 0//sub f,298/ for muscovite, pyrophyllite, and grossular.
