Title: Sorption properties of thin-layer nickel(II) sulfide. V. Chemistry of gold-195 sorption by sulfide in the NaNO/sub 3/-NaCl-Na/sub 2/S-HCl-H/sub 2/O system

The sorption behavior of /sup 195/Au has been studied by ion exchange, ultrafiltration, and calculation of ionic equilibria at an analytical concentration n /times/ 10/sup /minus/9/ M in chloride-nitrate-sulfide solutions with an ionic strength ..mu.. = 3 with respect to thin-layer nickel sulfide under conditions of supersaturation with sulfide sulfur referred to NiS. An adequate model of the sorption process has been proposed and the concentration constants (ml/g) have been calculated for the sorbed complexes: (3.8 +- 2.6) /times/ 10/sup 4/ for Au(SH)Cl/sup /minus//, (1.4 +- 1.0) /times/ 10/sup 4/ for Au(H/sub 2/O)S/sup /minus//, and (1.3 +- 0.9) /times/ 10/sup 3/ for Au(SH)/sub 2//sup /minus//. The free reaction energies ..delta..G/sub 298//sup 0/ have also been calculated: 43.10 kJ/mole for Au(SH)/sub 2//sup /minus// + Cl/sup /minus// = Au(SH)Cl/sup /minus// + SH/sup /minus// and 25.5 kJ/mole for Au(SH)/sub 2//sup /minus// + H/sub 2/O = Au(H/sub 2/O)S/sup /minus// + N/sub 2/S. The mechanism of sorption of microamounts of gold from chloride solutions by nickel sulfide has been refined.
