British Petroleum (BP) has been working almost continuously in the Cold Lake Oil Sands since 1965. Most of the activity has concentrated on the Marguerite Lake leases. Currently, BP is operating a multi-well pilot known as Phase A which is testing the Clearwater Formation with cyclic steam stimulation and combustion, and has recently started a single well steam test in the Lower Grand Rapids with AOSTRA. BP also is proceeding with the Wolf Lake project, which will produce 7,000 bbl/day from the Clearwater. Petro Canada has recently joined BP in the Wolf Lake Project. This study presents a brief overview of activity to date and describes the Wolf Lake Project.
