Ignition device for an internal combustion engine
This patent describes an ignition device for an internal combustion engine. It has a dc power source for generating a dc voltage, an ignition coil (primary and secondary coils), a spark gap, a capacitor, a first switching element forming a first closed circuit, a second switching element forming a second closed circuit, and finally a signal generating circuit responsive to an ignition command signal. The capacitor functions in two ways. Firstly, it charges through the first part of the primary coil and a high voltage for ignition is generated across the secondary coil when the first switching element conducts. Secondly, it discharges through the second part of the primary coil and a high voltage for ignition is generated.
