Conjugated polymer as substrate for the plating of alkali metal in a nonaqueous secondary battery

Patent ·
OSTI ID:6044692

This patent describes a battery comprising: (a) an anode comprising a porous conjugated backbone polymer substrate. The conjugated backbone polymer is reduced (n-doped) before or during the charging of the battery and, has dispersed therein elemental alkali metal; (b) an electrolyte comprising an organic solvent containing dissolved alkali-metal salt, and (c) a cathode; the alkali-metal from the electrolyte is electrodeposited in and/or onto the polymer substrate as elemental alkali metal during at least a part of the charging cycle of the battery. The elemental alkali metal is converted into alkali metal cations during the discharging of the battery.
