Developing convection above a finite horizontal surface
This paper reports the results of an experimental study of the initiation of convection above a suddenly heated horizontal surface of finite extent. The phenomenon of flow initiation in fluid layers is of both engineering and geophysical interests. The present study is the first that deals specifically with surfaces of finite extent. 8 refs., 6 figs.
