Lease-gas sweetening. Pt. 13. Solids processes for gas sweetening

Solids sweetening processes are based on adsorption of the acid gases on a bed of solid sweetening agent. Although this type of process is not as widely used for gas-sweetening problems as liquid processes, several advantages make them worth considering for certain applications. Usually these processes are applicable to gases with small-to-medium concentrations of HD2US or mercaptans, and where one can afford to selectively remove these contaminants without removing COD2U. High-purity gas is usually obtained. Gas pressure will usually have no effect on the process. Although these are batch processes, investment and operating costs for small-to- moderate gas volumes are fairly low. The solids sweetening processes can be subdivided into the iron-oxide or dry-box process and the various molecular-sieve processes. (12 refs.)
