Concentric slave cylinder for motor vehicle clutch control mechanism
In a motor vehicle drive train is described of the type comprising a friction clutch having at least one spring biased release element, a structural housing in the form of a casting at least partially radially surrounding the clutch and, concentric with the housing. A driveshaft connects the output of the clutch to the input of a gearbox. An hydraulic clutch actuator in the form of a slave cylinder comprises radially spaced inner and outer tubular elements together defining a chamber which is open in the direction of the clutch release element and substantially closed at the opposite end. A piston element slidably disposes between and is in contact with both of the inner and outer tubular element. A bearing retainer element is in abutting contact with the piston to be axially driven. A rotary throw-out bearing held by the retainer element and contacting the release element operates same when the piston is displaced within the chamber. The chamber, piston, and retainer means and the bearing all are concentric with the shaft and mounted around the shaft, the housing and at least the outer tubular element of the cylinder are cast as an integral unitary element. The inner tubular member forms a separate element having a flange for attaching to the outer tubular member. The flange is formed with a hydraulic fluid passage for supplying fluid to the chamber to actuate the piston.
