Observations on the life and overhaul requirements of aero derivative engines on base load industrial applications

Conference ·
OSTI ID:6041835
Experience in examining the overhauls on industrial aero-derivative engines has shown that the usual flight standards and procedures are not always applicable to ensure prolonged service under base load applications. Not only are changes often required in recommended overhaul intervals, but the methods used to analyze remaining life, and the repair procedures employed to refurbish turbine blades must be re-examined to allow for long term creep and aging phenomena. To illustrate the potential problems encountered, examples from various engines are presented and the changes in overhaul philosophy required to cope with the base load applications are outlined.
